The Dickson Parks and Recreation Department and Dickson Municipal Airport will host the Touch A Truck and Fly-In events on Saturday, Oct. 5 at the airport.
The parks department will present its 15th annual Touch a Truck in which children of all ages can see emergency vehicles and construction equipment up close. The airport will present its 7th annual Fly-In featuring airplane rides and a Kidzone.
The events are scheduled from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Dickson Municipal Airport-Pack Field, 2372 Sylvia Rd. Admission is free.
“For many children, this is the first opportunity to experience some of these vehicles up close,” parks Superintendent Cherie Wilson said. “They can sit behind the wheel of a police car or fire truck, climb on a cement mixer or dump truck or marvel at the size of a semi-truck. We even have preschoolers who are excited to step inside a school bus for the first time.”
The Fly-In will bring in pilots and a variety of aircraft for people to experience.
Airport manager Mike Gallagher said there will be at least five private planes offering rides over Dickson County during the event. Children 12 or younger can fly for free while those ages 13 or older will be $20. Tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.
As part of the Fly-In, the late Buford L. “Booty” Reed will be added to the Dickson County Aviation Wall of Fame. Reed, a county commissioner for almost 30 years, served on the Dickson Airport Authority. He died June 9.
Parking will be available near the south end of the runway in a field near the Airport Market at 2306 Sylvia Rd.
