The Fifth Annual Tennessee Wildlife and Landscape Photo Contest sponsored by the Tennessee Wildlife Federation is taking submissions through Aug. 31. Photographers — amateurs and professionals — can enter up to 20 of their best images of Tennessee’s wildlife and landscapes. The winning photos will be featured in the organization’s 2020 calendar. Explorers Bible Study (nondenominational) will begin a 30-week study of Corinthians, Ephesians, and Philippians every Wednesday starting Aug. 7 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at Dickson Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 500 Hwy. 70 East in Dickson. The Dickson County Historical and Genealogical Society will meet on Monday, Aug. 12, at 6:30 in the Clement Railroad Hotel Museum, 100 Frank Clement Place in Dickson. The speaker will be Rutherford County General Sessions Judge Ben Hall McFarlin, who will speak about “Jack Hinsons’s One-Man War”. Copies of Tom McKenney’s book “Jack Hinson’s One-Man War” will be available to purchase. Nonmembers are welcome to attend.

 

The Dickson County Amateur (Ham) Radio Club will meet Monday, Aug. 12 at 7 p.m. at the Emergency Operations Center Training Room at 284 Cowan Rd. in Dickson. The Gardening Partners’ monthly meeting will be held Tuesday, Aug. 13 at 7 p.m. at TCAT, 740 Highway 46 South in Dickson. The lecture is free and open to the public. The guest speaker will be Dr. David Cook, whose topic will be “Beneficial Insects”. Cook is a UT Extension Agent who is a frequent guest speaker for garden clubs, horticultural associations, and commercial pesticide workshops.

Civitan Club Golf Scramble for Mayson’s Place will be held Saturday, Aug. 17 at 8 a.m. at Montgomery Bell Golf Course, 800 Hotel Ave. in Burns. Teams of four golfers will compete. Prizes will be given to top two teams in each flight. Entry fee is $125 per player, which includes cart, greens fee, range balls, two mulligans, putting contest and lunch. A handgun carry permit class will be led by the Dickson Police Department on Saturday, Aug. 24 at 8 a.m. at the Dickson Police Firing Range in Buckner Park. The eight-hour class is free and open to all city residents and city employees. Participants must be 21 or older and eligible to own/possess a firearm. Proof of residency is required. A 5K Run/Walk sponsored by the GFWC Dickson County Woman’s Club will be held on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 8 a.m. at Montgomery Bell State Park, 1020 Jackson Hill Rd. in Burns.  All proceeds from the 5K go to the Dickson Community Clinic for women’s health issues.
