Gold Star presentation

Rep. Jim Cooper (left) presented a replacement Gold Star Pin to Birdie Bishop at the recent Vietnam Veterans of America meeting.

The Vietnam Veterans of America held its monthly meeting on Aug. 8 at Pond Church of Christ.

Recently, Gold Star Mother Birdie Bishop contacted the chapter and said that she had misplaced her Gold Star Pin that she had received after her son, Cpl. Jeffrey Adam Bishop, was killed in action in Iraq in 2007.

The chapter located a replacement pin and Rep. Jim Cooper presented Bishop with the new pin. He also presented to her a Purple Heart with the inscription “Gold Star Family”.

Another chapter member, Rick Dale Hughes, was given a letter of appreciation and a trophy showing the three soldiers guarding the Vietnam Wall.

Hughes has been the chapter president three times, the chapter vice president twice and represented the chapter at the national convention.
