Downtown Dickson is about to get a new parking lot with more than 80 spaces.
The City Council voted unanimously on Sept. 23 to accept a bid for construction of the lot at the corner of East College and Church streets.
The $533,000 bid went to Underground Pipe and Construction of Dickson, which had the lowest of three bidders, according to an announcement from the city.
Construction is expected to start around Oct. 14. Funding for the parking spaces will come from part of a $2 million loan from the Tennessee Mutual Bond Fund.
The property is the former site of the Jones Chevrolet dealership that was torn down after remaining vacant for several years, the city said.
Following a state environmental assessment, the city purchased the lot for $585,000.
