The Dickson Senior Center will be closed for the rest of March for coronavirus precautions, center director Joan Rial said.

“The City cancelled all activities at the senior center due to the coronavirus,” Rial said. “So, we are doing a deep cleaning, as well as painting and rearranging and finishing up projects we didn’t have time to work on when the center was full.”

Rial said the center, located at 206 West Walnut St,. in Dickson, will remain closed through the end of March.

“We have five employees here cleaning and working on things like window sills, baseboards, painting furniture and straightening out closets,” she said. “We’re doing things we can’t get to when we have 160 people here in the building every day.”

Assistant director Dwan Nelson added that a lot of things like the center’s bulletin boards were getting organized.

“The center will have a new look when they come back in,” Nelson said.

Tammy Burk, project coordinator for the center, said that many of the senior center members are independent and mobile.

“We still call to check on them and do reassurance calls,” she said. “We do that any day.”
