Rebecca Garrard Smith, age 71 of Dickson, TN, died May 19, 2020 while vacationing at Holden Beach, NC.
All who knew Rebecca, knew she was the best homemaker in town. Her love to serve others abounded. Rebecca was God’s servant. His love shone through her. She knew no stranger and would help any in time of need, taking in many through the year for a night or for years. There was never a time someone could pass by without leaving with a full belly, a jar of jam, vegetables, or a dozen eggs. She lived to take care of others, especially her family.
She adored her four grandchildren with all her heart. She was the perfect picture of a doting grandmama—ready to teach how to make a cake or quick to give Biblical advice on life’s trials. She was a constant encourager and pushed her two children Justin and Jessica to meet their full potential, even into adulthood. She championed Jessica to return to college to finish her degree and helped with her four children while doing so. She pushed Justin to realize his lifelong dream of opening a hobby shop in Dickson. She never gave up on anyone she loved.
Rebecca was a wife like no other! She dedicated her entire being to taking care of Alan. She was his helpmate, confidante, adviser, and most importantly, sister in Christ. She never complained (except when Alan walked in with the 100th bushel of tomatoes!) and always had a hot meal in front of whoever was there each night. She was a true gem and will never be replaced. She spent her last days happily with the ones she loved most and in her favorite place. Her final moments were in the kitchen wearing her apron preparing a meal for those she loved—serving until her final breath!
Oh, how we rejoice that she can finally rest at her dear Lord’s feet! Rebecca – “Servant of God.”
Survivors include her husband of 51 years Alan M. Smith husband Eric of Burns, TN; her four grandchildren, Landon, Sydney, Callie and Austin; brother Walter Edward Garrard, Jr. of Colorado; two sisters, Sarah Holmberg and husband of Ridgeway, SC, and Virginia Nelson and husband of Lewisburg, West Virginia.
