ASHLAND CITY – Creek Wood recently competed at the Cheatham County Duals against seven other schools including Greenbrier, Sycamore, Cheatham County Central, Fairview, Upperman, East Robertson and Forrest.
The Red Hawks fought well, but they had a few injuries, so they were forced to forfeit points in each match.
“I thought they fought hard today,” Creek Wood coach Jimmy Murphy said. “We had a lot of kids wrestling in the wrong class today because we had to bump them up to keep from having too many forfeits. I think it was a bad week to wrestle in dual tournament, but with so many people out, we had to get some other people some mat time.”
Murphy said he is still optimistic about how his squad is shaping up this season.
“I like the pieces we have,” Murphy said. “We have a good mixture with three seniors, four or five juniors, three or four sophomores and three or four freshmen. I think we’re going to be really good by the end of the season, because our kids will be in the weight group they need to be in, and I think next year, we’re going to reload and be good again too.”
