The spotlight will be shining on the county’s two high school football teams during the first week of season as WUXP My TV30 announced last week that the Aug. 23 contest between Dickson County and Creek Wood will be televised as the “Friday Night Rivals” game of the week.
WUXP My TV30 also released the schedule for the next four weeks of the season. They will televise Clarksville at Springfield on Aug. 30, Shelbyville Central at Page on Sept. 6, Pulaski Academy at Ravenwood on Sept. 13, Hendersonville at Lebanon on Sept. 20 and Blackman at Riverdale on Sept. 27. Future games will be announced at a later date.
“Having our game televised against any opponent is a great opportunity to our athletic programs to get exposure to other areas of the state,” Dickson County coach Randy Murphree said. “I know this will be exciting for our players and our schools.”
Creek Wood coach Houston Thiel said he feels the same way.
“Creek Wood is excited they selected us to be a part of the Friday Night Rivals series,” Thiel said. “It is a great opportunity to showcase our county, our schools and our football teams. The selling point I made to the station in February was that the matchup between Dickson County and Creek Wood is the definition of a rivalry and what high school football should be about. These kids are playing in games for teams that they grew up watching.”
