Fairview defeated Creek Wood 39-36 in the girls game to kick off the evening, but the Creek Wood boys team came back after an early deficit and beat Fairview 62-58.
Fairview had the lead for most of the evening in the girls game until a third-period surge from the Lady Red Hawks gave them a small advantage. Fairview used a strong fourth period to close out the game late and get the win.
Kelsey Gossage led Fairview with 20 points, while Brianna Burgess led Creek Wood with 11 points of her own.
In the boys game, Fairview took some momentum from the girls team as they pushed out to a large 19-6 advantage by the end of the first period, but Creek Wood cut the lead to 32-27 at the half. Fairview’s lead was only one point, 42-41, at the end of the third period, and in the final period, Creek Wood took the lead and the win.
Jace Harrell’s 23 points led the way for Creek Wood, while Kennedy Pendergrass led the way for Fairview with 16 points.
Creek Wood had a few more games later in the week as the girls faced both Camden and Lewis County, while the boys faced Lewis County last Friday night. Creek Wood won all of those games, including Creek Wood coach Charles Taylor’s 300th win last Friday night. This week, Creek Wood will travel to East Hickman on Tuesday for its next contest.
The Fairview boys faced East Hickman last Friday night and came away with a win, while the girls also won against East Hickman and another game last Thursday against Sante Fe. Fairview’s next game will also be Tuesday at Waverly.
